Harold G Walker Ladies Run the Race for Life

A team of eleven women from Harold G Walker, one of Bournemouth’s leading solicitors firms, will be running in the Poole Race for Life on the 29th of June in Poole Park to show support for friends and family who have battled cancer.

 

The Race for Life, a women only event organised by Cancer Research UK, raised over 40 million pounds for research after over 665,000 women took part across the UK last year.

 

The Harold G Walker team organiser, Lindsay Taylor, commented, ‘Even running in the rain last year the atmosphere was fantastic, and we’re delighted that we have another group of us taking part this year. It’s an extremely encouraging experience, seeing so many messages of support for people’s loved ones.  I’m running in support for my friend, who has just been diagnosed, and in memory of my friends’ mother.

 

Vikki Elford, a Legal Assistant within HGW’s Probate department added, ‘This year’s Race for Life has taken on extra significance for me, having lost my mother to cancer just before my son was born last year. I think all those taking part are unified in hoping that the money we raise can bring us closer to finding more effective treatments, and hopefully a cure.’

 

The atmosphere on the day itself a major factor in why so many women get involved as Jacqui Nicol, a Secretary in the Matrimonial team explains, ‘Whilst my main reason for running is in memory of my aunt and my friend, the atmosphere is extremely encouraging, and great fun, even if you don’t feel like running or jogging.’

 

Matrimonial solicitor Catherine Smith cites her unique experiences before becoming a solicitor as her motivation for taking part. She explains, ‘I’m running in support of all the women I met in my six years as a mammographer in the NHS, who faced the disease with remarkable courage, determination and good humour.’
